In 2012, before the 40-acre parcel that is now R Park was purchased and the reclamation process began, the property was a commercial gravel pit. Because the park is for the community, shaped by the community, and supported by the community they have been very involved since then. During the beginning of reclamation, when R Park still looked like a gravel pit, Rendezvous Lands Conservancy hosted it’s now-signature Summer Solstice parties for community members to see the progress. In fall 2014 over 1,000 community members celebrated R Park’s opening, which was a huge success.

We’ve since hosted a Winter Solstice celebration for ‘Friends of R Park,’ complete with bonfires, sledding, gingerbread cookies, apple cider, and even caroling, the party was festive and fun.
